Challenge
A control unit from Sensortechnik Wiedemann was to receive an abstraction layer for application programmers: encapsulating basic functions, simplifying applications and making them independent of the hardware.
Approach
- Function blocks for SAE J1939 CAN communication, joysticks, characteristic curves, current control and I/O
- Central fault management: every block instance stores faults with metadata in non-volatile memory
- Reading and managing faults via CAN, with a multi-level concept for service and development
Outcome
Simpler application development, hardware-independent applications and consistent fault diagnostics.
