Test automation

Automated test sequences with NI LabVIEW and TestStand or Python – reproducible, version-controlled and with meaningful reports.

Manual testing does not scale: every new software release increases the test scope. Automated test sequences run hundreds or thousands of checks reproducibly, record every result and make regressions visible immediately.

We use the tools that suit your environment: NI TestStand as test executive with LabVIEW modules for instrument drivers, or a lean Python framework that fits seamlessly into Git and CI pipelines.

We pay particular attention to test reports: every step describes in plain language what it did and what it expected – including passed checks. Any test run can be understood without re-running it or reading the source code.

How we work

  1. 01

    Understand the scope

Which requirements need to be verified, which instrumentation is available and what does the release process look like?

  2. 02

    Define the architecture

TestStand, Python or both – we choose the tool mix that suits your team and environment.

  3. 03

    Implement test steps

Reusable building blocks instead of one-off solutions, version-controlled and documented.

  4. 04

    Put it into practice

Reports, integration into your workflows and training so that your team can maintain the tests independently.

Frequently asked questions

What are plain-language test reports?

Many test environments only report PASS or FAIL. We have every test step record what it did and what it expected – even when everything was fine, for example: “The ignition was switched on. The control unit was ready after 2.5 s – as expected.” When a test fails, your team immediately sees which steps behaved as expected and where the behaviour deviated. That saves time and makes decisions easier.

LabVIEW/TestStand or Python – which is better?

It depends on your environment. NI TestStand is an established test executive with reporting and user management and works closely with LabVIEW and NI hardware. Python offers free availability, a large ecosystem and easy integration with Git and CI. Combining both is often the best route – we advise vendor-neutrally.
